1997 nissan maxima
I bought my 1997 Nissan Maxima SE when it had 70000 miles. This was about a year and a half back. As of January 12th 2004, it presently has 99900 miles, and I realized what easier way to get back into writing Epinions than to write a review on my automobile which has been thru so much.
When purchasing a second hand auto to replace my 1993 Altima, the fourth generation Maxima wasn’t on my list, I did not consider it to be a “fun” automobile, nor did I think of it as a fast automobile, each of which were giant factors in deciding what to purchase. My first choice was a 1997- 1999 Audi A4 1.8T with Quattro, but after further research, at the time I decided I wasn’t financially ready to maintain this automobile, and I did not like the high-priced repairs that can have needed to be done if problems were encountered. My next choice was a 1996 Volvo 850R, with a 240HP turbocharged engine, an awe-inspiring interior, and great easy EU styling, I assumed this is going to be my next automobile, but like the Audi, it would cost lots of cash to fix if something went incorrect. So I kept searching for a car that was right for me.
One day at the busy used vehicle lot, a Rosewood (Maroon/Purple) 1997 Maxima SE grabbed my eye. I had no reliability problems with my 1993 Altima I formerly owned, I just wanted something faster, and more refined. Having said that, the Maxima fits right in. It was priced around $10,500 which was well inside my range and while it did not have as many options compared to other Maxima SE’s, it had everything I required, and a couple things additional. Power windows, locks, keyless entry, sunroof, spoiler, foglights, for example. Etc… After test driving this automobile, I came to notice that what I wanted did not have to be in pricey to maintain ECU vehicles with controversial trustworthiness, this automobile has 190HP and 205TQ thanks to one of the finest V6’s ever produced, the VQ30DE. I ultimately bought this vehicle for $9100 and went home satisfied.
One thing that worried me however and still does is the four speed automated transmission, even though it serves its purpose and gave me no problems, I really wish I bought a 5speed Maxima. My idea to any potential buyer is to look into a five speed manual, there is a massive opening in performance between the automatic Maxima and the five speed Maxima, almost a complete 2nd difference in the quarter mile time, and about half a 2nd in nil – 60 MPH.
The performance of this car is excellent, the 190HP V6 has no problem responding to full throttle acceleration (which I do rather often), and gets the 3000lb Maxima to 100MPH with ease, with enough and gets the car will easily do 130 in stock form. And even at high speeds the car is very stable and not hard to control, I was always at high speeds the way this car handles speed.
